Dana Point Turkey Trot
We ran the Turkey Trot 5K on Thanksgiving morning. The day before the race we went down to the venue to get our timing chips, t-shirts and bibs. That night we excitedly attached the chips to our shoes and set out our clothes we also went to Capricios for a nice dinner - carb loading is a good excuse to go out for Italian. Thanksgiving morning we all piled into the car with Grandma and Grandpa Hughes, we figured parking would be a problem so we left early, turns out no-one parks in the West Marine parking lot and we were at the starting line with plenty of time to spare. The race went well and we were both happy with our times and the experience. Our stats are posted below all the pictures.
Attaching the timing chips
Pre-race prep
People lining up for the start, there were 2,347 runners in our race, nearly 9,000 in all the events combined
The gun has gone off but it is 30 seconds before we actually cross the start line, the guy behind Pepper pushed past her but we looked up his time on the website and she beat him by a couple minutes.
After the race.

Nels driving Uncle Josiah's race car. The entire BYU engineering Formula SAE team showed up at our house and started working on their car in our garage... how cool is that! It was particularly gratifying when one of the students asked if we had any taps, then another needed snap ring pliers and I happened to have both on hand.
